Join DownsSteam for a fantastic day out behind one of our heritage steam locomotives on our Rails & Ales – Steam Adventure.

Departing from Drayton Station, our heritage steam train will travel through the picturesque countryside of the Darling Downs to the historic township of Cambooya, where guests will have the opportunity to visit the much-loved Bull & Barley Inn for a classic country pub experience.

Passengers holding Pub Lunch Tickets will disembark at Cambooya for their reserved lunch at the Bull & Barley Inn to enjoy and alternate drop meal. While guests enjoy their meal, the steam train will continue south to Greenmount, where it will turn before returning to Cambooya to collect passengers for the return journey to Drayton.

This landmark tour marks the first time in many years that DownsSteam has operated a passenger steam train deep into the Granite Belt. Built for Queensland’s main lines, BB18¼ No.1037 is one of the most powerful and iconic steam locomotives ever to operate in the state. Lovingly restored and maintained by DownsSteam, No.1037 carries the name “Peter Ford” and represents the very peak of Queensland steam-era engineering.

On this journey, you’ll witness No.1037 doing exactly what she was built for — working hard, climbing grades, and echoing through the hills as she hauls her train toward the Granite Belt. This is not just a train ride — it’s a living, breathing demonstration of heritage steam at work.
