Bush Poets Breakfast

DownsSteam is hosting a very special Bush Poets breakfast on the Drayton Station Platform, Sunday, 25th of March. At 8.00am, a hearty barbecue breakfast will be prepared by our friendly volunteer team immediately prior to the show. Then sit back and relax as two of Australia's best known Bush Poets Ray Essery and Gary Fogarty serve up a literary feast.

Admission, breakfast, & bush poetry show is only $30 per person, with all funds raised going towards "Project 106" the restoration of Toowoomba's own steam locomotive, the “Pride of Toowoomba”. Steam Locomotive #106 was proudly built at the Toowoomba Foundry in 1915 and is now the only remaining C16 class steam locomotive in existance. After a little more than a century and over a million miles of steaming across Queensland rails, this once proud steam engine has found its way back home and into the hands of our dedicated team of volunteer craftsmen.

Gary Fogarty

Gary Fogarty has succeeded in doing what most of us aspire to, turning his ‘passion’ into a full time pursuit. After years of hard work and dedication to performing Bush Poetry, Gary can now legitimately lay claim to be one of Australia’s most popular and busy Bush Poets. A regular performer at some of this country’s major Festivals for many years now, Gary has taken the next step and as a member of the Australian Performing Arts Team has taken his craft to a international audience, claiming a Silver and Two Bronze medals at the prestigious World Championships of Performing arts in the USA.

Ray Essery

Ray Essery is without doubt one of the most highly regarded performing Bush Poets in Australia today.  Ray is unique and a genuine original.  After arriving on the entertainment scene in the early 90’s Ray has worked hard at enhancing his natural abilities as a story teller by developing an ‘on stage’ persona that represents his life’s journey. This ‘North Coast’ poet can leave his audiences in stitches with hilarious tales that reflect his years as a dairy farmer, Navy man and Sydney pub manager. Likewise he can dig deep into the kitbag of his family memories to deliver heartfelt recollections of his early life, taking his audiences on a nostalgic journey back to a time when life on the North coast was just a little less complicated.
