The Commissioner
RM2004 & RM2032
Originally built as passenger cars, RM2004 & RM2032 have been running as a pair since approximately 1991 when they were earmarked for inspection use. RM2032 was specially converted by Queensland Rail in 1991 to be the "Commissioner's Inspection Car". Both units were withdrawn from service in 1995 with an extensive overhaul being undertaken by D&N Francis in Brendale for QR Coal & Minerals which involved modifying the interior configuration, fitting new engines, gearboxes and air-conditioning. They returned to Callemondah for commissioning in 1999. They have travelled all across Queensland for inspection use with most usage in recent years being for driver training at Aurizon coal depots.
2000 Class Background
Built by Commonwealth Engineering in Brisbane, the 2000 class railmotors were part of a class of 40 similar units built between 1960 and 1971 for Brisbane suburban and country services. The last regular operation of this fleet ceased with electrification of the Ipswich to Rosewood section in December 1993, with the last country services (Toowoomba to Roma and Townsville to Bowen) being withdrawn at the same time. A small number were reactivated to provide a shuttle service between Yeerongpilly and Corinda between January 1997 and January 2000.
